Why We Started the Inattentive ADHD Coalition

In 1992 when she was 49 years old, Cynthia Hammer was diagnosed with Inattentive ADHD which was called ADD at the time.  She thought she was the only adult in the United States who had this disorder, but quickly learned she was not alone.  Still, there were many doctors who didn’t know that ADHD outlasted childhood. She founded and ran ADD Resources for 15 years, a non-profit organization that focused on helping adults recognize their ADHD and learn how to improve their lives.

Shortly after starting ADD Resources, Joan Riley Jager joined the organization, initially as a Board member, and then as the office manager.  Joan stayed at ADD Resources for a few years after Cynthia retired, and then she continued her commitment to the ADD community by creating and maintaining ADDfreesouces.net.

Now Cynthia and Joan have started a new non-profit, the Inattentive ADHD Coalition. Creating this non-profit felt imperative after they learned that 30%  of those with ADHD have the Inattentive type and they are significantly less frequently diagnosed and treated.  Cynthia and Joan are committed to changing this dynamic so that children with PI are diagnosed during childhood and adults, questioning if they have PI, are correctly diagnosed.

Join us in creating a legacy that all children with ADHD get diagnosed during childhood and all adults with Inattentive ADHD get the help they deserve..
