The Inattentive ADHD Coalition Acknowledges a Generous Donor

September 19th, 2022 - For Immediate Release

The non-profit organization, the Inattentive ADHD Coalition, acknowledges a generous donation from Supernus Pharmaceuticals, to create more awareness of the inattentive type of ADHD and the need for early diagnosis and treatment. Because valid research demonstrates that medication is the most effective treatment of ADHD, the Inattentive ADHD Coalition, a 501(3) organization, accepts donations from pharmaceutical companies with FDA approved treatments for ADHD.

In March 2022, the board of the Inattentive ADHD Coalition adopted a policy to accept donations from pharmaceutical companies with FDA approved medications for the treatment of  ADHD. Our organization promotes only the most effective treatment for ADHD, which research demonstrates is medication.

“Despite many years of research trying to find good therapies for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), medications are actually considered to be the most effective treatment for decreasing symptoms.”

On August 8, 2022 Supernus gave a donation to support our mission that children with inattentive ADHD are diagnosed by age 8 and adults with inattentive ADHD are readily and correctly diagnosed when they seek help.

Too often, children with inattentive ADHD remain unidentified, undiagnosed, and untreated. When not diagnosed during childhood, they are more likely to have diminished and damaged lives. Delayed diagnosis often engenders complications such as comorbid depression and anxiety, as well as poor self-confidence and low self-esteem.

For these reasons, our Board of Directors decided that the most effective thing our organization can do is educate elementary school personnel about inattentive ADHD and the importance of early diagnosis.

We are creating videos for this purpose which will be posted on our website, starting in October, ADHD Awareness Month. The videos will be in the public domain.

Our website has a Child Questionnaire that identifies children with possible Inattentive ADHD. It describes in detail the behaviors an inattentive child might display in the school setting. Teachers and school counselors, knowledgeable about normal child development, can recognize when a child’s inattentive behaviors occur more frequently or to a greater degree than in other children.

The Inattentive ADHD Coalition was founded in March 2021 by Cynthia Hammer, MSW. She founded the organization after becoming aware that the inattentive type of ADHD, which she has, continues to be under-diagnosed or incorrectly diagnosed.
